The Australian singer-songwriter's new album The Gem arrives in September
Julia Jacklin is back. The Australian singer-songwriter has revealed The Gem, her first new album in four years, out Sept. 25 via 4AD.
Ahead of the release, Jacklin dropped the euphoric rocker “Get Away From Me (I Think I'll Love You Soon),†which shines with fuzzy guitar riffs and Eighties jangle rock vibes.
The Gem marks Jacklin's debut release on 4AD. It's her fourth studio album, after 2022's Pre Pleasure and 2019's Crushing. She made the record entirely in Melbourne, producing it alongside Robert Muinos. The album is named after a bar in the neighborhood of Collingwood; she cut it at Muinos' Rat Shack Studios, which sits right above the Gem.
“I want to love and be loved, but I also want to be free,†Jacklin said in a statement. “The tension between those two things has been the central question of my life … The Gem felt like a metaphor for the whole process, because a lot of it did feel like digging. I felt like I was doing it almost in the dark, just trusting I was going to find something.â€
Jacklin recently announced a tour, which will hit North America beginning in San Diego on Oct. 20. She'll play across the West Coast, before stopping in major cities like Austin, Atlanta, and Brooklyn. After hitting Philadelphia on Nov. 21, she'll head to the U.K. and Europe.
